The Napa County district attorney announced that Cable won't be charged in connection with allegations that Cable assaulted assistant coach Randy Hanson on Aug. 5 during a meeting at the team's training camp hotel in Napa, Calif. Hanson went to the hospital to get treated for a broken jaw.

    Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable won't face charges after being investigated over allegations that he assaulted one of his assistants, ending a two-month saga that was a cloud over the team's season. Napa County district attorney Gary Lieberstein said Thursday that the investigation concluded no charges were warranted.

  • Animal rights group set to protest Vick (AP)

    A Bay Area animal rights group is planning a protest against Michael Vick before his game against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The group In Defense of Animals says it will protest outside Oakland Coliseum before Vick plays his first road game for the Philadelphia Eagles since being reinstated to the NFL following an 18-month prison sentence for his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was having an MRI on his right leg in the wake of his injury against the Kansas City Chiefs.  Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said the results will be reviewed by Dr. Russell Warren later Monday, oct. 5, 2009,  and the team will make an announcement after the doctor talks to Manning.

  • Raiders RB McFadden to have knee surgery (AP)

    Add yet another low to a long list of them for the Oakland Raiders during a seven-year run of losing. The Raiders' latest loss dropped them to 25-75 since the start of the 2003 season, the worst 100-game stretch in the team's 50-year history. And never in that half-century of football has the offense performed as poorly as it has to start this season.
