  • Redskins LT Samuels done for season (AP)

    Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels is out for the season, and linebacker H.B. Blades and cornerback Byron Westbrook are recovering from knee surgery. The Redskins made the expected move of placing six-time Pro Bowl lineman Samuels on injured reserve Saturday. Samuels has a chronic spinal condition and will decide in a few months whether to return next season or retire.

  • Vikings CB Winfield to miss Packers game (AP)

    The Minnesota Vikings will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield when they face the Green Bay Packers in a pivotal NFC North game on Sunday. Winfield was listed as out in Friday's injury report. He also missed last week's game against Pittsburgh because of the injured right foot. Coach Brad Childress said he saw Winfield make progress throughout the week, but obviously not enough…

  • Chiefs suspend RB Johnson until Nov. 9 (AP)

    Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, who made two gay slurs within a 24-hour period, was given what amounts to a one-game suspension Wednesday night, but Johnson's agent said he would appeal. Agent Peter Schaffer said the game check and other lost revenue would amount to about a penalty of about $600,000 for the former two-time Pro Bowl player.

After months of talks that intensified over the past two weeks, Ware agreed Monday, Oct. 26, 2009,  to a $78 million, six-year deal through the 2015 season that guarantees him $40 million.

Seau is back with the Patriots, ready to play linebacker again at age 40. Tuesday's announcement was made by Versus, the television network on which Seau has a show. The Patriots have not announced the signing, although the team said he had a physical.

  • Steelers’ Polamalu not expected to play (AP)

    Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu practiced only lightly for the third day in a row and is not expected to play Sunday in Detroit. Polamalu, a five-time Pro Bowl player, has not played since tearing the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Sept. 10 against Tennessee. He was on the field Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but did not take part in a full practice.

  • Hasselbeck practices, should play Sunday (AP)

    Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck(notes) throws a pass during NFL football practice on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in Renton, Wash. The practice was the first for Hasselbeck since breaking a rib in a  Sept. 20 game in San Francisco.

    All signs are pointing toward Matt Hasselbeck returning to quarterback the reeling Seahawks on Sunday against Jacksonville. The three-time Pro Bowl passer looked sharp while completing a second consecutive practice Thursday. It's his first work since he broke a rib Sept. 20 on a dive for the goal line at San Francisco.

  • Anderson to start at QB for Browns (AP)

Anderson will replace Brady Quinn(notes) and start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, against Cincinnati.

    Two years ago, the Cleveland Browns turned their woeful offense over to Derek Anderson and won 10 games. Eric Mangini can only hope it happens again. With his first season in Cleveland already unraveling, Mangini benched Brady Quinn in favor of Anderson, who rode a similar opportunity in 2007 to an appearance in the Pro Bowl.

  • Wallace likely to start for Hasselbeck (AP)

    Matt Hasselbeck granted one little guy his wish Friday. He couldn't grant all other Seahawks fans theirs. Hasselbeck missed a third consecutive practice day because of a broken rib, so the Seahawks expect backup Seneca Wallace to start at quarterback for the three-time Pro Bowl passer on Sunday against Chicago.

  • Broncos suspend WR Marshall for conduct (AP)

Marshall, openly unhappy with the Broncos, was suspended by the team on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009,  for unspecified "detrimental" conduct. The club did not say in its 15-word statement how long the suspension would last.

    Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall, openly unhappy with the Denver Broncos, was suspended by the team for the rest of the preseason for what coach Josh McDaniels called "detrimental" conduct. Marshall, who has brooded since demanding a trade and asking for a new contract, was informed of the suspension by McDaniels on Friday.
