Trevor Ariza, making the move from the Lakers this season, scored a career high 33 points, Aaron Brooks added 28 points and the Rockets held on to beat the Portland Trail Blazers at home for the fifth straight time in regular season, 111-107 Saturday night.

  • Redskins LT Samuels done for season (AP)

    Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels is out for the season, and linebacker H.B. Blades and cornerback Byron Westbrook are recovering from knee surgery. The Redskins made the expected move of placing six-time Pro Bowl lineman Samuels on injured reserve Saturday. Samuels has a chronic spinal condition and will decide in a few months whether to return next season or retire.

The owner of the Tennessee Titans wants to see more of Vince Young. He's reportedly getting just that with the winless Titans making a change at quarterback from veteran Kerry Collins(notes) back to the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

    Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams wants more of Vince Young. He's getting just that with his winless team switching from veteran Kerry Collins back to the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year. Coach Jeff Fisher announced the expected move Thursday following practice for the 0-6 Titans, and Young got the news from his coach in the morning.

  • Motor City Overhaul

    When black enterprise announced its decision to have its 2009 Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo in Detroit, the move raised more than a few eyebrows. After all, if the nation was in a recession at the time, surely Detroit must be in a full-fledged depression. The automotive industry—the city’s lifeblood—was facing its worst business climate ever, prompting massive layoffs, restructurings, and, in General Motors’ case, bankruptcy. The city, which was struggling prior to the events in the auto industry, had to contend with high rates of unemployment and poverty as well as real estate values that had plummeted to the point where a significant portion of the population found their mortgage balance exceeded the value of their homes.

    Federal prosecutors have asked an appeals court to stay its decision that government agents illegally seized the drug testing records and samples of more than 100 baseball players.     Ricky Rubio wants to keep playing basketball in Spain, saying a move to the Minnesota Timberwolves would be too risky and complicate his life. The 19-year-old point guard was sent from DKV Joventut to Barcelona on Tuesday after the Catalan club paid Rubio's $5 million buyout clause.   • Angels acquire LHP Kazmir from Rays (AP)

Kazmir was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, Aug. 28, 2009, giving the AL West leaders a major boost to their unsteady rotation. The Angels acquired Kazmir, a two-time All-Star, for two minor leaguers and a player to be named. The left-hander was 8-7 with a 5.92 ERA this season for the defending AL champion Rays.

    The Los Angeles Angels did more than just upgrade their unsteady rotation. They added a two-time All-Star who's only 25 years old. Scott Kazmir was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the AL West leaders Friday night, a major move for a high-scoring team that already had World Series aspirations.
