  • Redskins: Zorn to coach remainder of ’09 (AP)

FILE - In this Oct. 18, 2009, file photo, Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn talks into his headset during the second quarter of an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Landover, Md. The Washington Redskins front office capped a week of high drama Friday with an unexpected vote of confidence in coach Jim Zorn.

Well, that should quiet things down for a while. The Jim Zorn unemployment watch is over. Jerry Gray, as it turns out, isn't a coach-in-waiting about to get promoted any day now. Another week of Washington Redskins craziness ended with an actual message of stability Friday: The front office said Zorn will be the coach for the rest of the season.

  • Isiah ‘hurt’ over Magic’s book comments (AP)

FILE - In this April 16, 2008 file photo, New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas watches from the bench as his team played the Indiana Pacers in the first half of NBA basketball action in Indianapolis. Thomas has told SI.com that he is "really hurt" over criticisms levied by Magic Johnson in a new book chronicling the careers of Johnson and Larry Bird. According to the SI.com report, Johnson said Thomas questioned his sexuality after the Los Angeles Lakers star retired in 1991 after being diagnosed with HIV. Johnson also tells the Web site that he helped play a role in keeping Thomas off the 1992 U.S. Olympic team. Neither FIU nor a Thomas representative had any immediate comment Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.

Hall of Fame players Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson famously kissed each other's cheek moments before tip-off of Game 1 of the 1988 NBA finals. Today, the relationship clearly isn't anywhere near as close. In Thomas' mind, a 17-year-old wound has been reopened in a new book that Johnson and Larry Bird wrote with author Jackie MacMullan.

LeBron James isn't quite over the flu. He's not that far off. Though not completely healthy, James said he still felt pretty good after going 7 of 14 from the field and grabbing six rebounds.

  • Colts stay perfect, drop Titans to 0-5 (AP)

Peyton Manning isn't one to check off his latest achievements, especially not during the season. Good thing. They're piling up almost as quickly as victories for Manning and his Colts. Manning's near-perfect start to the season continued Sunday night as he had 309 yards passing and three touchdown passes, and the Colts never trailed in beating their AFC South rivals 31-9 for their…

  • Favre not out for revenge vs. Packers (AP)

photo taken on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre(notes) shouts out at the line of scrimmage against the San Francisco 49er during an NFL football game in Minneapolis. Favre says he's not out for revenge heading into the Vikings' Monday night game against his former team, a statement that contradicts his previous comments about wanting to "stick it" to the man who traded him, general manager Ted Thompson.

One minute, Brett Favre sternly insists he isn't out for revenge against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. The next, he says it's only human for him to feel like he has something to prove to the team that traded him. In his first extended interview session with Wisconsin-based reporters since well before his unretirement saga went public last summer, Favre reluctantly revisited his…

  • Paul not worried about replacement refs (AP)

Because of his size, many teams will always try to be physical with Chris Paul. Yet the All-Star guard isn't worried about play getting out of hand if his games are being called by replacement officials. "No, no," Paul said Monday. "I don't worry about replacement referees. End of the day, you're reffing the game." The NBA and its referees union have failed to reach…
