Safety Ryan Clark got his wish: replacement Tyrone Carter took one to the house and Clark got to fly home with his teammates this time. Carter started in place of Clark as a precaution Monday night and made the big play that sparked the Steelers to their fifth straight win, taking the first of his two interceptions 48 yards for a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 28-10 win over the Denver Broncos.

After a taste of playoff success, Carmelo Anthony has a voracious appetite for more. The Nuggets outlasted the Memphis Grizzlies in a 133-123 shootout Sunday night because Anthony extended his torrid start with 42 points, negating a career-best…

Broncos improve to 5-0, top Pats in OT (AP)
Kyle Orton is no John Elway, Josh McDaniels is no Bill Belichick and those mustard-yellow uniforms certainly don't have anyone thinking "Orange Crush." But on a day that had as much to do with Denver's colorful history as its promising present, anything seemed possible. Orton led a drive that might ring a bell for Broncos fans — 98 yards in the fourth quarter to tie the game –…

Nuggets G Smith says jail changed him (AP)
J.R. Smith is pledging more maturity this season, a promise he's made in the past. The sharp-shooting Denver Nuggets guard realizes that some will believe it, while some will remain skeptical. That's fine with him. He knows he's changed. It's been a sobering offseason for the 24-year-old Smith, who spent 24 days in a New Jersey correctional facility after pleading guilty to reckless…

Replacement refs make uneventful debut (AP)
The NBA's replacement referees were a non-issue in the preseason opener, just as the league wanted. The Utah Jazz beat the Denver Nuggets 103-87 on Thursday night in an exhibition game that featured 69 fouls and very little objection to any of them. Whether it was preseason indifference or players and coaches heeding to the league warning to be nice to the new officials, there wasn't much…
