  • Hawks’ Johnson plans to be free agent (AP)

    There's a new reason for the Atlanta Hawks to enter the 2009-10 season with a renewed sense of urgency. This could be the team's final season with Joe Johnson. Johnson, the team's three-time All-Star, top scorer and captain, plans to play out the final year of his contract this season and enter free agency instead of accepting the team's offer of an extension.

  • Bobcats sign G Murray for 1 year, $1.9M (AP)

    The Charlotte Bobcats came to terms late Thursday with free agent guard Ronald "Flip" Murray on a one-year, $1.99 million deal. Agent Mark Termini said Murray chose the Bobcats after also having discussions with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 12.2 points last season coming off the bench for the Atlanta Hawks, and gives coach Larry Brown more options in the backcourt.
